The blanket fort was my first attempts at large freeform installation pieces. A chance at playing around with creating a soft child space that I as a child would have loved to build.

The intentions behind this piece however was to create a soft environment that felt just slightly off putting. The main theme of the blanket fort being "Avoidance to the point of ignorance". The idea to represent this safe and welcoming space as a physical coping mechanism, and having the intentions of keeping the insulation in a dark corner of a destroyed room, keeping the Blanket Fort as the only warm light within the room. Within the fort itself are papers thrown an crumpled that have saying of "there is nothing outside", as way to give the audience an off putting feeling in what is supposed to be a safe and cozy nest of a space.
Overall the piece is meant to focus on the desire only ever stay within the personal safety bubble that has been built, and the refusal to acknowledge what may happen outside of that comfort.
